I have now been working as a physiotherapist for four years. After completing my degree, I started working in clinical practice straight away. I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. My main area of interest is complaints affecting the upper extremity, such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Through my work, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience in treating these complaints. For example, I worked at a practice where I treated many (extreme) athletes. This gave me extensive experience with a wide range of complaints and injuries affecting the upper extremity. In addition, I have regularly guided people through their rehabilitation following surgery.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active myself. I play tennis, practise various martial arts, climb and participate in endurance sports such as running and swimming. This background helps me relate well to patients who want to return to their sport, work or daily activities as fully as possible. At the same time, I also love doing absolutely nothing from time to time and reading a book.
As a therapist, I believe it is important that patients feel heard and understood.
I also believe it is important that they are able to take ownership of their own recovery. I therefore like to explain what is happening and why certain complaints occur. We then work together to create a treatment plan that aligns with the goals that are important to the patient.
Where necessary, I use hands-on treatment techniques. I mainly see these as a means of reducing symptoms or movement restrictions, so that you are subsequently better able to actively work on your recovery and perform your exercises effectively. In this way, I aim not only to help you during the treatment sessions, but also to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage your own complaints.
I am convinced that good physiotherapy is not only about reducing symptoms, but above all about making sure that you can get back to doing what is important to you.
