Clinical Pilates at Wijs brings together two things we believe work beautifully alongside each other: the principles of Pilates, and the clinical expertise of physiotherapy. It is not a different or superior form of Pilates, it is simply Pilates applied with a specific therapeutic focus, for moments in life when your body needs that extra layer of guidance and care.
Where regular Pilates builds strength, mobility, and body awareness, Clinical Pilates zooms in on a specific challenge: an injury, a persistent pain, a post-surgical recovery, or a body navigating a health condition. The two complement each other naturally, and we encourage clients to move fluidly between both as their journey evolves.
Clinical Pilates applies the same core principles you will find in any Pilates session: controlled movement, breath, alignment, and deep stability within a rehabilitation-focused framework guided by a physiotherapist.
It starts with a proper physiotherapy assessment. Before any movement happens, your physiotherapist takes the time to understand your body: how it moves, where it struggles, what its history is, and where you want to get to. That assessment shapes everything that follows.
Exercises are carefully selected and adapted for your specific situation, whether you are dealing with chronic pain, returning to movement after surgery, or managing a long-term condition.
Clinical Pilates is for anyone whose body needs a little more guidance – whether you are recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or simply looking for a safe and supported way back into movement. It is particularly valuable if you are:
There is no baseline you need to meet to get started, and no pressure to stay longer than you need to. At Wijs, Clinical Pilates sits alongside regular Pilates, gym training, and physiotherapy; just one of the tools we use at the right time in your movement journey. Whether you are mid-recovery or ready to address something that has been holding you back, we are here.
We look at your posture and alignment, movement patterns and joint mobility, muscular strength and balance, areas of discomfort or pain, and your injury and medical history. That understanding is the foundation everything else is built on.
Exercises are not just strengthening, they are corrective. We watch how you move, refine technique, and make sure progressions happen at the right pace for your body. You might work on a single piece of apparatus or move across our full range of equipment: reformer, tower, chair, ladder barrel, and trapeze table depending on what serves you best that day.
As your body becomes stronger and more stable, we introduce new challenges purposefully. When the time is right, we will often encourage you to transition into regular Pilates or other training available at Wijs.
Not sure whether you want to continue after the intake? No pressure at all. Our therapists will advise you on the best path forward, and you can always return to regular physiotherapy at any time.
